Way Finding - A Therapeutic Journey

Towards Wholeness and Integration

“Compassion isn’t just about feeling the pain of others; it’s about bringing them in toward yourself. If we love what God loves, then, in compassion, margins get erased. ‘Be compassionate as God is compassionate,’ means the dismantling of barriers that exclude.
— Gregory Boyle, Tattoos on the The heart

About Therapy

What am I getting myself into?

The commitment to encounter is a commitment to life (Goizueta, 2010).  It is in these committed encounters that we become compassionate, bringing one another’s face into view.  As a bi-racial Latina therapist, I believe we are created for relationship, and that these relationships are formed within culture, gender, sexuality and sociopolitical contexts. They have potential to bring joy, heartache, struggle and more.

I once told my therapist, “Why didn’t you tell me this was going to be so hard and so good?!” Through our interactions, you may experience moments where you feel past relational dynamics are repeated and the trauma is too much to bear. This is normal and expected in the therapeutic process. When this happens, we will explore and engage these moments with transparency and curiosity, allowing space for your body to tell its story at its pace. This often helps you narrate and integrate your experience, and empowers you to decide how you want to move forward in the future.

My approach to counseling varies, but is rooted in cultural connectedness, gender, and social constructs which move towards healing. I am a trauma-informed, and relational psychotherapist, who sees the person as a whole and seeks to work with you to break down barriers to care and healing.

About Danielle

Hola! Soy Daniela - Welcome - I am Danielle S. Castillejo. I was born in the Midwest and raised in the Pacific Northwest. I love the anticipation of Spring and Summer in the Northwest - the long days and sunlight we miss in the dark winters. You can easily find me out on a trail, or working in my yard. Over the course of my life I have lived in Morocco and traveled extensively. During that time I found healing and restoration through therapy and happened on the book, “My Shining Affliction” by Annie Rogers.

With all of my children in school full time, I applied to graduate school at The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology. A deeper sense of calling developed when I was invited to explore my story through The Allender Center, Story Workshop. I went on to complete Level 1 & 2 of the Certificate in Narrative Focused Trauma Care. Our culture has experienced such an intense ripping and cultural identity crisis. This asks healing practitioners, such as myself, to address internalized racism, story, and its effects on both myself individually, my family and my community. I am grateful to have begun this process with my MA in Counseling Psychology and studies at The Allender Center.

Working with me

If you choose to reach out and we embark on a journey together, it will be one that is co-created. I do not believe that I have all of the answers, nor all of the ideas or intellect to guide you. I trust my body and intuition. I trust your body and intuition. We will work with both narrative and somatic narrative. I believe our bodies tell a story.

Having traveled a long road to healing myself, I deeply value the process of therapy. I consider it an honor to work with others on their journey of becoming more fully and freely themselves. I engage clients with integrity, curiosity, and listen in a compassionate, nonjudgmental manner. If you’d like to know more, I’d love to connect with you.

Therapy is best when done consistently. The more you put into it, the more you will get out of it. Some people need only a few sessions, while others need more long term therapy. Whatever the need, I start with weekly sessions. Once we settle into a consistent session time, it is reserved for you.

If you’d like to discuss the possibility of working together, I provide a Free 30-Minute Phone Consultation to help us determine if we are a good fit for one another.

Through our therapeutic relationship, by addressing the concerns which bring you to therapy, a process occurs that journeys toward healing, and transformation. My approach to counseling varies, but is rooted in cultural connectedness, gender, and social constructs which move towards healing. I am a trauma-informed, and relational psychotherapist, who sees the person as a whole and seeks to work with you to break down barriers to care and healing. I focus on cultural constructs that shape relating, primary attachments, while exploring the moments, within these contexts and ideologies that shape you.

I work with men, women, and teens who have experienced collective trauma, individual trauma and abuse, DV, anxiety, grief, loss, and current social disruption. I specialize in helping clients grow in ‘way-finding’ in a dominant culture that would like nothing more than to ignore and forget your voice. We will work together to understand, trust, and value your intuition. I am particularly passionate about working with survivors of collective trauma and abuse.
